Fuell To The Fire

Who’s getting burned today?

On Thursdays, it’s a holiday!

September 16th, 2008 by Stewart

I’m not going to be at Easy Street Piano Bar this Thursday for the DVD release party for The Devil Lives In Hot Springs, but I sure as hell wish I were. Devil is a movie that was orchestrated by a couple of Central Arkansas guys who decided it was the best way to spend a few months and made it a totally local affair. It was shot here, the music is by Arkansas musicians and there’s not a single dirty ferner among the actors.

Coincidentally enough, it turns out one of the stars of the film — Shela Stanfield, who was the one who brought the project to my attention — was hired to replace me at a job I left in a former life before coming to her senses and leaving to work for the awesome Central Arkansas Library System (motto: “Job opportunities here don’t depend on skin color and what church you go to.” Not that the opposite is necessarily true for any other employers I might have previously mentioned above…), where I  spend 20 hours a week rocking the audiovisual department. Will CALS add The Devil Lives In Hot Springs to its DVD collection? I’ll see what I can do.

Anyway, Wishtribe is supposed to do an acoustic set and the film’s actors and crew will all be in attendance as well. Be there or be square, ninjas. I’ve got an advance copy to review, immediately putting a whole season of Doctor Who on the back burner. I’ll get back to you on that.

    Hey Stewart,
Thanks for writing about our movie, “The devil lived in Hot Springs”. I enjoyed reading the review and your take on the movie.

Absolutely my pleasure, Tony. I have a healthy amount of enthusiasm for art that bypasses the establishment and respect for anyone who can pull it off and retain a little sanity.
Local filmmakers, local musicians, local writers and painters create work that has more soul than can ever come out of the machine. Be in touch.
